'Quins keep the heat on Leinster with win over Wasps

HARLEQUINS HAVE KEPT pace with Leinster in pool 2 after a 16 – 23 away win over Wasps in High Wycombe.

Conor O’Shea’s men opened up a 13 – 3 lead thanks to Charlie Matthews’ try. Joe Simpson’s effort took the hosts to within a kick by half-time with the scores 10 -13.

Andy Goode duly kicked his side level with two penalties before 60 minutes.

Nick Evans had ensured ‘Quins did not trail in the second half and always appeared the more likely to take a decisive score.

With 15 minutes to go, the Harlequins pack were in position and were in no mood to let the opportunity pass. A huge effort at the scrum resulted in a penalty try to give them a seven-point cushion.

Evans had chances to deny Wasps the losing bonus point, but was off target meaning, the Coventry-bound club sit on two points in Pool 2, six behind Leinster and leaders Harlequins.
