THE QUEEN OF England has passed up the chance to see Leitrim host her home county of London in the Connacht SFC semi-final in Carrick-On-Shannon this weekend, it has emerged.

Two councillors in the town sent the invite to officials in the English capital when the tie was finalised and subsequently received the above reply.

“We initially got on to the PR company that deals with these things with the idea of asking the mayor, Boris Johnson to attend,” Cllr Enda Stenson told TheScore.ie today.

“That was then forwarded on to the Queen’s secretary we understand. We thought it would be a nice thing to promote the town — in the year of the Gathering, Carrick 400 — and it would it would have been good to have someone represent London and for us to take it to another level. We haven’t heard back from Boris Johnson,” he adds.
