23 years ago this week you were probably singing along to Put 'em Under Pressure

And you’ll probably be singing it tonight after hearing it again.

FROM THE OPENING riff borrowed from the Horslips’ classic Dearg Doom, to the insanely catchy chorus, 23 years ago tonight, with Ireland on the verge of playing their first ever game at a football World Cup, chances are you were probably singing along to ‘Put ‘em Under Pressure’.

Other songs came and went that year – Liam Harrison’s Give it a Lash Jack, The Memories’ ‘The Game’ to name but two – but ‘Put ‘em Under Pressure was the daddy of them all spending an incredible 13 weeks at the top of the Irish singles charts.

And though it might feel like we’re a long way from those dizzy heights now we still defy anyone to listen to this and not sing along.
