PSG want 'popstar' Beckham... and they don't mean Victoria

PSG sporting director Leonardo has declared himself a massive fan of the midfielder and says he’d love to bring him to France.

DAVID BECKHAM COULD become part of the revolution going on at Paris Saint-Germain if the club’s sporting director, Leonardo, has his way.

The England midfielder only has a year left on his contract with MLS side LA Galaxy and has already been linked with several clubs back on this side of the Atlantic, including Tottenham and QPR.

PSG were the second highest spenders in European football over the summer – less than £3 million behind Manchester City – so Brazilian Leonardo, who coached Beckham at AC Milan, should be able to use the club’s new found wealth – funded by owners Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) – to compete for any financial terms the 36-year-old might seek.

“He is someone that I really appreciate and admire so much – his values and everything he has done in football,” Leonardo told BBC Sport.

“The door is open. He is more than a football player – he’s a brand, a pop star.

“He respects the rules, listens to you and wants the best for the team. That’s why for me he is a big example. I worked with him and that’s why I talk about his name.”
