In full swing: 11 great reasons to watch provincial rugby this weekend

Number one: because Paulie says so.

2. Leinster fans / everybody, you won’t get many more chances to see this genius at work.

3. There’s a derby on!

Currently, seven points off fourth, Munster need all hands to the pump if they are to make a play-off push.

A win could spring  Connacht up to seventh, just one place (albeit still at least six points) behind the southern province.

4. There’s a top-of the-table clash.

Unless you won’t consider first v third a big game.

Glasgow are the form team in the league with seven straight wins, the last five of which have been won with a bonus point.

They lead the league on points difference, but Leinster have their own six-strong winning run to protect and they’ll desperately want to keep moving up the table to ease the blow of falling out of Europe’s top competition.

7. Ulster begin three tough weeks on the road.

Suddenly the northern province is second in the table, but they can welcome back Jared Payne, Johann Muller and Paddy Jackson to help them make hay while Leinster and Glasgow knock lumps out of one another.

The trip to Edinburgh heads up a fixture list which will send them to face Leinster and Saracens away from home.

8. You can actually enjoy the game..

Watching Ireland brings on a wide array of intense emotions, but happiness or satisfaction have been missing in action since Dunedin.

… and your team might win.

Another thing Ireland matches haven’t really been providing of late. Meanwhile the provinces continue to pose challenge at every level they set their targets on.

10. You might see some really, really cool stuff like this from Nikola Matawalu.

Watch from the start for all of his highlights from the win over Ulster, or skip to 3:05 for the try-of-the-season contender.

11. Make sure you’re on the bandwagon before it starts to roll.

European quarter-final weekend is just 15 days away. Make sure you know how everyone is shaping up before Sky’s cameras come a knocking.
