Peterborough offer for starlet Kearns

Peterborough United set to sign Dundalk’s 20-year-old winger just shy of his 50th appearance for the County Louth club.

DUNDALK WINGER DANIEL Kearns is due in Peterborough for a medical on Monday after Lilywhites boss Ian Foster agreed to sell the 20-year-old to the city’s Championship outfit.

The League of Ireland club confirmed the deal over the weekend and Kearns himself was quick to acknowledge the role Foster has played in reigniting his career.

The Belfast native was released by West Ham 15 months ago but his impact at Oriel Park has seemingly been enough to seal a contract with United and Kearns will work under the guidance of Darren Ferguson, son of Sir Alex.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me and I’m really looking forward to it,” Kearns told Dundalk’s official website.

“I’m really looking forward to, hopefully, playing under Darren Ferguson, going in and getting a chance and showing him what I’m about. He’s just all about football and seemed really keen to get me in, so it’s obviously good from my point of view, feeling wanted by the club and the manager.”

Speaking about Foster, Kearns added: “(Ian) did say to me when I came in that if anything did come up he wouldn’t stand in my way and, to be fair, he has kept his word. I’m grateful for that.”

Peterborough United have yet to officially confirm the deal and weren’t the only suitors for Kearns with Celtic also reportedly tracking the youngster.
