WILLIAM PORTERFIELD HAS said thereโs no reason Ireland canโt recreate the heroics of the past as they get set for the Cricket World Cup in 2015.
In 2007, Ireland stunned Pakistan to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament and, despite not qualifying for the semi-finals, Porterfield believes his side are more than capable of matching or surpassing that performance in Australia and New Zealand next year.
โWeโve managed to pull out big results in the World Cups before, weโll be expecting nothing different from ourselves come February/March.
โThereโs a big Irish community down there and hopefully they can come out in their numbers and support us.
โWe know we can go out there and beat anyone on our day, I think weโve shown that in previous World Cups.
โThe first and foremost aim is to get through that group, (to the quarter-finals) and from there anything that can happen. I think thereโs no reason why we canโt do that,โ Porterfield said in an interview with The Slog Sweep podcast.
Ireland have West Indies, UAE, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India & Pakistan in their group with the top four teams qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Excellent player.
Cricket in this country has seen a massive surge in popularity. I think Cricket Ireland needs to start marketing the Interprovincials more rigorously and perhaps organisations such as The Score should provide articles on these games to help promote the domestic game.
In fairness if you get into it itโs good craic to watch. Better than golf and millions watch that. Can be rather dramatic.
Really enjoyed listening to the piece, 7 years as captain of his country and heโs not even 30 yet! That must be some kind of record for any Irish Sport?
Loved the whole show; a great way to keep in touch with the sport from overseas here. Good Idea
The Irish team plays with more passion and pride than the football team does thats for sure!! (and i love football)
Always enjoy watching them play.
And as the commenter above me mentioned
Would it be possible for thescore to do articles on the interproโs?? Would love to see it happen!
