Poll: Have the FAI made the right decision in keeping Trap as manager?

It has been confirmed that Trapattoni will stay on as Ireland manager. What do you think of this development?

THE FAI HAVE tonight confirmed that Giovanni Trapattoni will remain as Ireland boss for now.

There had been initial widespread speculation that the FAI would sack Trapattoni, after they had called a meeting to discuss his future tonight.

Many fans and critics had urged the association to sack Trapattoni, citing the manager’s negative style of play, his eccentric team selections and stubborn attitude as increasingly unacceptable, particularly after the side were hammered 6-1 by Germany at the weekend.

However Trap’s supporters, encouraged by the team’s 4-1 defeat of Faroe Islands last night, have pointed to the manager’s record as Ireland boss, in which he has only lost two qualifiers during his time in charge as evidence that he should be kept on.

There are rumoured to be other mitigating factors in the decision, with many commentators claiming the FAI cannot afford to pay the compensation to which Trap is entitled should he be sacked.

With all that in mind, what do you think? Have the FAI made the right decision?
