GAA forced to cancel Poc Fada finals after torrential rain in Louth

A new date will be announced early next week.

THE GAA HAS announced that the 2014 Poc Fada finals – set to take place today – have been postponed following a course inspection this morning.

Those inspections confirmed that the venue at Annaverna Mountain, Ravensdale in Co. Louth would be unable to host the event.

A statement from the GAA stated that the “safety of the participants is paramount” and therefore the organisation came to the decision to cancel the Poc Fada and schedule a new date.

The GAA says they will announce that date for the finals early next week. Louth was hit by heavy rain overnight, and the forecast remains bleak for the rest of the day.

“The GAA would like to thank all the participants and supporters who made the trip to Co. Louth and an announcement will be made early next week to confirm a rescheduled date for the 2014 M. Donnelly GAA All-Ireland Poc Fada finals,” ended this afternoon’s official statement.
