A GOALKEEPER WHO was captured on camera eating a pie during an FA Cup game, has been handed a two-month ban and a £375 fine.
Ex-Sutton United keeper Wayne Shaw allegedly ate the pie during his side’s FA Cup clash against Arsenal in February, after a bookmaker offered odds of 8-1 on him doing so.
The Gambling commission subsequently launched a probe into the incident.
45-year-old Shaw has been punished for intentionally influencing a football betting market and bringing the game into disrepute.
Shaw, who resigned from the club after the controversial incident, denied the charge when he appeared at an FA hearing in Wembley on Wednesday.
He said at the time of the scandal that he was unaware of the betting promotion prior to the fifth-round FA Cup tie, and said it was ‘just a bit of fun.’
Speaking to Sky Sports News at today’s hearing he said:
“I can’t believe it. It has affected my whole life. I just need to move on now. Hopefully today will be the end of it.”

if you were as big a Brian fan as you say you are then you’d know…
You left off his battle cry as the teams left the field at half time vs New Zealand in November. One of his best moments.
Good one paddy. Cant believe hes only 28. Seems like hes been around forever!!
Absolute Kearnage!!
Think pic no 5 is wrong. That or the kit was casual wear an someone built a wall on the pitch.
Ah, shur aul’Big Rob is my first cousin *cough*
Isn’t he the most beautiful man ever
Every game a struggle without him.
When has Rob Kearney started at centre for Ireland Patrick?
I believe he came off the bench in the closing stages of the Italy game in 2008 to replace O’Driscoll.
If it’s the game after the WC in 2008, he came onto the wing for Darcy who hurt his arm and Trimble moved to the centre.
That was the game indeed. Cheers.
