'This is what football is all about' - Philly McMahon

The Ballymun Kickhams man was quick to credit Mayo for their part in another absorbing All-Ireland final.

DUBLIN DEFENDER PHILLY McMahon has credited every person involved in the county’s backroom team after his side overcame Mayo in another colossal battle in Croke Park.

“Two weeks ago our character was really tested. Mayo are a really strong, competitive team.

“All testament to the backroom team that got us ready for today, we owe it to them. That was what all the hard work in the last two weeks was for – the backroom team and management,” the 29-year-old told RTÉ’s Marty Morrisey.

But the Ballymun Kickhams clubman also praised the role played by Stephen Rochford’s side in making the two games an epic encounter.

“When you play Mayo it is always a tough and tight game, but we all have bumps and bruises from that one.

“This is what football is all about. Two teams bringing the best out of each other. We’re delighted to come out in the end with the result.”
