Despite £72m Barca bid, Phil Coutinho put on a show for Liverpool in friendly win over Leicester

The Brazilian showed no signs of distraction as the Reds picked up some pre-season silverware.

LIVERPOOL ARE DIGGING in their heels to try and keep Philippe Coutinho at the club, rejecting £72m bid from Barcelona.

They are expecting the Catalan club to return with a bigger offer, despite the 25-year-old only having signed a new five-year deal last season.

Coutinho’s future has been a talking point for some time though, in May, he distanced himself from rumours linking him with a move elsewhere and reiterated how content he was on Merseyside.

“Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player,” he said.

“Here you can be something more. I have a long contract with Liverpool.”

Coutinho featured heavily on Saturday as Liverpool picked up some pre-season silverware by beating Leicester City in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong.

They had to come from behind to secure victory after Islam Slimani opened the scoring after just 12 minutes.

But, new boy Mohamed Salah equalised just eight minutes later – with Coutinho supplying a delightful assist.

Then, just before half-time, Coutinho himself provided some magic, darting inside from the left of the penalty area and whipping a superb strike to the far corner.
