SIXTEEN-TIME WORLD champion Phil “The Power” Taylor got one over on old rival Raymond van Barneveld at the Premier League darts last night.
But Taylor’s 7-3 win at the SECC in Glasgow was overshadowed by an incident in which he was allegedly spat at by a spectator.
Taylor was booed by the Scottish crowd as he walked to the stage flanked by security. Video footage shows him wiping his ear in disgust before appearing to mouth the word “spit” twice.
He then shared a quiet word with van Barneveld on the stage before the two got down to business.
Taylor’s win moves him into a four-way tie at the top of table joining “Barney”, James Wade and Michael van Gerwen on 10 points.
In the evening’s other matches Wade beat Van Gerwen 7-4, Adrian Lewis won his meeting with Andy Hamilton 7-4, Robert Thornton thumped Simon Whitlock 7-1 and Wes Newton edged the closest contest of the evening, beating Gary Anderson 7-5.
