IRELAND COACH PHIL Simmons will fly home from Ireland’s World Cup warm-up tour tomorrow.

A short statement issued by Cricket Ireland confirmed that Simmons will leave the tour of Australia and New Zealand to be with his ill mother in his native Trinidad.

The squad are currently in Christchurch where they are preparing for their final match against Otago.

Assistant coach Peter Johnston will take charge for Thursday’s game.

Simmons’ departure follows that of captain William Porterfield who flew home last week for personal reasons.
