Two United players punished for breaching Uefa doping rules

Phil Jones has been suspended and fined, with Daley Blind just fined, following incidents in the aftermath of the Europa League final.

MANCHESTER UNITED DUO Phil Jones and Daley Blind have been punished by Uefa for breaching the governing body’s doping regulations after the Europa League final.

Jones has been suspended for two games and fined €5,000, with Blind fined the same sum but escaping suspension, after incidents following the game back in May.

Press Association Sport reports that Jones was verbally abusive toward a doping control officer after he was requested to be tested after the final in Stockholm, while Blind was reluctant to take a test as asked because he wanted to celebrate with his victorious teammates.

Jones will miss next week’s Super Cup with Real Madrid as well as United’s first Champions League group game.

United have been fined €10,000 for their part, and have three days to appeal Uefa’s decision.

There has been no suggestion from Uefa or other parties involved that either player was guilty of doping.
