Peter Uihlein had this 40-footer for the first ever 59 on the European Tour

They don’t come much closer than this…

PETER UIHLEIN CAME within inches of making history at the Alfred Dunhill Links today.

The American stood over this 40-putt on his final hole for an eagle three and with it the first ever round of 59 on the European Tour.

The pace was perfect but the putt slid just by the cup and stopped an inch or two away, leaving Uihlein with the easiest of tap-ins for a 12-under par round of 60.

The round is the 17th 60 on the main European Tour, but the magic 59 remains elusive.

England’s Tom Lewis leads on -15, a shot clear of Joost Luiten thanks to a seven-under 65 at Kingsbarns today.
