No Strings: Stringer leaves for Bath on short-term loan

Meanwhile, Harlequins have confirmed that their Heineken Cup quarter-final will be played at Twickenham Stoop.

MUNSTER SCRUM-HALF Peter Stringer is to join Bath on a short-term contract.

The 35-year-old, who has only started two games this season, moves to the Aviva Premiership later this week “on a seven/eight week loan basis,” Munster said this afternoon.

Should Munster require him, Stringer will be available to return ahead of the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.

Rob Penney’s men booked their place in the knockout rounds with a five-try win at home to Racing Metro yesterday, dislodging defending champions Leinster from the final qualification spot as a best runner-up. They will now cross the water to face Conor O’Shea’s Harlequins on the weekend of 7/8 April, with the hosts confirming that the game will take place in their home grounds Twickenham Stoop and not moved to a venue with a bigger capacity.

Stringer’s move, similar to his short-term stays with Saracens and Newcastle Falcons last season, was brought about by his desire to get more first-team action, Penney said.

Bath head coach Gary Gold said: “He is still keen to compete at the highest level, and we are short at scrum-half at the moment due to injury. I’m sure he’ll be a huge asset to our other nines with his invaluable experience and exceptional work ethic.”
