JEAN-CHRISTOPHE PÉRAUD was left battered, broken and unable to continue after an awful day at the Tour de France.

The AG2R rider fell during a recon ride ahead of today’s individual time trial stage and fractured his collarbone.

Despite the injury Péraud, who was ninth in the general classification standings before today, was determined to continue and made it to the start line in Embrun.

But disaster struck again for the Frenchman two kilometres from the finish line when his bike slipped from underneath him as he rounded a corner and he came crashing down on the same shoulder.

Péraud will now require surgery on the injury and, unsurprisingly, won’t finish the race.
