Guardiola charged for two breaches of Uefa's disciplinary regulations

The Manchester City boss was sent to the stands last night.

MANCHESTER CITY MANAGER Pep Guardiola has been charged with improper conduct after he was sent to the stands by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz during Tuesdayโ€™s Champions League defeat to Liverpool, Uefa has confirmed.

City lost 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium due to second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, which completed a 5-1 aggregate triumph for Jurgen Kloppโ€™s side.

Chasing an improbable comeback following a 3-0 reverse at Anfield last week, Guardiola named an attacking line-up and the hosts led on the night through Gabriel Jesus inside two minutes.

Wave upon wave of further attacks during the first half proved fruitless, however, and the City boss confronted his countryman Lahoz on the field at the break over Leroy Sane having a goal ruled out for offside. Replays showed Liverpool midfielder James Milner played the ball in the Germany wingerโ€™s direction.

Guardiolaโ€™s Uefa rap sheet includes two breaches of the organisationโ€™s disciplinary regulations โ€“ โ€œdismissal from the benchโ€ and โ€œimproper conduct of the coachโ€.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match, the City manager spoke witheringly of Mateu Lahozโ€™s officiating.

โ€œI said it [Sane's effort] was a goal. I didnโ€™t insult him, I was polite, I was correct. But Mateu Lahoz is a special guy, he likes to be different, he likes to be special,โ€ he said.

โ€œI know what happened in Monaco last season, at 1-1, with an incredible penalty [not given to] Sergio Aguero.

โ€œHeโ€™s special. When everybody sees things, he likes to decide the opposite. I didnโ€™t say any wrong word.โ€

Letโ€™s face it, itโ€™s been dreadful for yearsโ€ฆfrom Givens to King. Awful. And I guess there is little chance Kerr will be given the role with John the Baptist in charge

Shock horror. High time the second coming of Don Givens was moved on. An ideal role for Brian Kerr.

How about hiring a coach who has a clue what heโ€™s doing.

People throwing around fixture congestion as a valid excuse for Horgan not being called up for the seniors. Yet Maguire and O Connor playing tonight and a game tomorrow as well as tonight and this Ireland team were out regardless.
