Pearse O'Neill calls time on intercounty career with Rebels

Cork will have to plan without the 33-year-old Aghada man.

DAYS AFTER CORK football lost the talismanic Graham Canty to retirement, another one bites the dust on Leeside.

Pearse O’Neill has tonight called time on his intercounty career.

The 33-year-old was part of clubmate Conor Counihan’s All-Ireland winning side in 2010 as well as winning four league titles and three Munster crowns.  An Allstar in 2009, the Aghada clubman made his championship bow for the Rebels in seven years ago.

“I came onto the panel in 2006 and have loved representing my family, club and county by wearing the Cork jersey,” O’Neill said tonight. “I want to thank all the backroom staff that have been involved during my time with Cork, in particular Billy Morgan and Conor Counihan who were the two managers I played under.

“I also want to thank all the players that I played and trained with for all the enjoyment and memories, and I wish everyone involved in 2014 and further on all the very best”.
