Paulo Wanchope involved in punch-up with security guard at Costa Rica game

The Ex-Premier League striker found himself in a spot of bother last night.

REMEMBER FORMER MANCHESTER City, Derby County and West Ham striker Paulo Wanchope?

Well these days, he is head coach of the Costa Rica national team. Their U23s faced Panama in an Olympic qualifier last night and, when the game ended 0-0, Wanchope attempted to walk through the stand gate and onto the pitch.

At this point, he appears to be shoved by a man, reportedly a security guard, into a young ball boy, then gets involved in a scuffle before police break the pair up.

He could find himself in some trouble for this…

Interesting that the video is avoiding showing the man on the left, he stopped Paulo Wanchope opening the gate and then he pushed him down steps into the ball boy., is it a setup. Paulo might have got a nasty fall if you’re man wasn’t 4 ft 9”.

From what I have seen it was self defense.

How do we know he didn’t? Watch the way Wanchope tries to open the gate. He doesn’t grab it in an aggressive fashion first.

I agree Dave, didn’t spot it the first time but the lad in the black t shirt pushes him as he goes through the gate and then it kicks off.

Always remember him for the goal he scored for Derby against United running from the halfway line and sliding the ball past schmeicheal!

He was about to get his ass kicked. Lucky for him it was broken up. Id say he didnt expect the little fellow to have a bit of fight in him.

Definitely a setup… look a the dude in the red shirt. he look directly into the camera just before it kicks off. if you pause the video at 0:06 you can see the guy pushes Wanchope into the gate before he turns around an clocks him.
