French connection: Evra and Pogba.

'He's really a golden guy' - Pogba backs Patrice Evra following Marseille sacking

His France teammate is ‘a big brother for everyone, an uncle for everyone’.

PAUL POGBA HAS  defended Patrice Evra in the wake of his sacking from Marseille and hailed him as a ‘golden guy’.

The 36-year-old saw his contracted rescinded by Marseille in early November after kicking a fan before their Europa League game against Vitoria Guimaraes.

Evra faced heavy criticism in the wake of the incident and is yet to find a new club, but Pogba insists his France team-mate is a great character who sacrifices himself for those around him.

“The image he had before the problems was not good, but he’s really a golden guy,” the Manchester United midfielder told SFR Sport .

“He really helps the team and the staff, he is behind us. Even on the bench, this is a person who will encourage everyone, a person who will be in the dugout and who will come into the locker room to talk to the team, to encourage them.

“This is one of the few players who pushes players by saying: ‘Do better than me. I don’t want to be selected, let the young play to progress’.

“He’s a real leader, a big brother for everyone. Uncle Pat, as I call him. He’s an uncle for everyone.”
