O'Connell set to start for Munster despite concerns

The star was reported to be struggling with a hip injury ahead of this evening’s Heineken Cup semi-final.

PAUL O’CONNELL IS set to start for Munster against Clermont in this evening’s Heineken Cup semi-final, despite concerns that he would not be fit to play, owing to a reported hip injury.

The worries started when Irish Independent Sports Reporter Ruaidhri O’Connor tweeted: “BREAKING: Serious news coming from Montpellier, Paul O’Connell is a major doubt for Munster, he’s struggling with a hip injury.”

His colleague, David Kelly, subsequently tweeted: “That rumour regarding O’Connell gaining serious currency inn Montpellier, just as the rain clouds begin to part.”

However, subsequent reports on the site quashed fears that the Munster forward would not be fit enough to start, with Des Cahill tweeting: “Paul O Connneill [sic] WILL play for #Munster in  Montpellier according to Michael Corcoran.”

In addition, David Cogan of the Irish Rugby Supporters Club tweeted: “Irish Rugby Supporter’s Club has been onto the Munster press office inquiring about the injury. We have been told that he will start.”

The game in Montpellier kicks off at 5pm.
