Here we go: The French media have got the 'Paulie to France' rumour mill rolling

They don’t care that our 35-year-old captain is contracted to 2016, they reckon he’d love it in Pau.

JUST WHEN YOU thought Irish central contracts were getting re-signed with minimal fuss, Midi Olympique jump back in and heave a rumour mill into motion.

This morning, Gavin Mortimer picked up his daily dose of transfer gossip from the French newspaper and found Ireland captain Paul O’Connell mashed into speculation alongside Chris Ashton.

The story stems from a kite flown in Sud Ouest on Friday that O’Connell, who (let’s not forget) is contracted with the IRFU until the summer of 2016, is close to Simon Mannix and James Coughlan so will obviously fancy moving to Pro D2 leaders Pau.

Today, MO managed to get Mannix to sound enthused by the prospect of having the force of nature within his pack after next year’s World Cup.

‘La Section’ are also keen on David Smith and Nicolas Sanchez, but O’Connell vers la France?

We’ll field this one, Midi Olympique: Non.
