New dad Paul Mulcahy dies in motor rally

Organisers have cancelled rest ofCarrick-on-Suir Stages Rally after tragic accident on Raven’s Rock course yesterday.

THE DEATH OF rally driver Paul Mulcahy in Waterford yesterday has been described as a “tragic accident”.

The experienced driver was killed during stage four (Raven’s Rock rally) of the Carrick-on-Suir Stages Rally, on the road between Kill and Carroll’s Cross. His co-driver was taken to hospital but is not believed to be in a critical condition.

Motorsport Ireland extended its sympathies to Paul’s family and friends after the “tragic accident”. Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club, organisers of the rally, cancelled the rest of the event after the crash.

The Irish Examiner is reporting this morning that Paul, who was from just outside Dungarvan, and his wife Fiona became parents for the first time about two months ago.

The motorsport community was last night sympathising with Paul’s family and friends:
