PAUL McBRIDE WAS the only Irish representative on the Great Britain and Ireland that lost to the United States in the Walker Cup yesterday.
The USA enjoyed a 19-7 victory at the Los Angeles Country Club to regain amateur golf’s trophy that they lost at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2015.

The teams were tied at 2-2 after Saturday’s foursomes, but the home side dominated the singles that afternoon to move into an 8-4 lead.
McBride had a disapointing day in Sunday’s singles, losing six and give to Braden Thornberry.
“I think it starts with the US team getting that big trophy and that was our goal at the beginning of the week and I’m so excited to be part of the 2017 winning team,” said USA’s Maverick McNealy, who plans to turn professional after this win.
“That’s what’s most important to me. I’m so glad we could win this for our team, win this for Captain Miller, and win this for the country.
“It’s been unbelievable. I’ll never forget this week. It’s the end of my amateur career, but it means so much more than that to me, it’s been incredible.”
