The FAI confirmed that Meyler failed to recover from a knee injury picked up during Hull City’s win against Millwall and has returned to his club for treatment.
Green, 29, will join the squad in time for tomorrow’s training session in Malahide.
Earlier today, assistant manager Marco Tardelli revealed that Trapattoni contacted Everton’s Darron Gibson this morning to invite him to join the squad following news of Meyler’s withdrawal. Gibson declined, Tardelli said, citing fitness concerns.
Green was a shock inclusion when he was called into Trapattoni’s squad for Euro 2012 despite not having a club at the time. He made one appearance at the tournament, playing 10 minutes as a substitute in the 4-0 defeat against Spain.
He won the most recent of his 13 senior caps as a second-half substitute in the drawn friendly against Serbia in August but missed Ireland’s first World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan when he was sidelined with a knee injury.
