All-Ireland final referee battled through intense personal grief at Croke Park

Paud O’Dwyer’s mother Bridget passed away on Saturday evening.

KUDOS AND OUR deepest sympathies are extended in equal measure to Carlow referee Paud O’Dwyer, who took charge of yesterday’s Electric Ireland All-Ireland minor hurling final between Galway and Tipperary.

It has emerged that the Palatine whistler’s mother passed away on the eve of the game.

Bridget O’Dwyer, late of Newbawn in county Wexford, died at Knockeen nursing home on Saturday evening.

Paud still managed to produce a most competent display in extremely difficult circumstances, as Galway claimed Irish Press Cup glory.

Mrs. O’Dwyer’s funeral will take place tomorrow in Cushinstown at 12pm, followed by her burial in St Stephen’s Cemetery, New Ross.

May she rest in peace.

‘He says it’s probably the worst team ever, that’s coming from an official’

Cody: ‘I’ve yet to see a match that was won on the sideline’
