Party-pooping Yankees spoil Red Sox anniversary

On the 100th anniversary of their first game at Fenway Park, the Red Sox were beaten as A-Rod hit the 631st home run of his career.

ALEX RODRIQUEZ HELPED the New York Yankees spoil the Boston Red Sox’s celebrations with a 6-2 win in the MLB last night.

On the 100th anniversary of their first game at Fenway Park, the Red Sox were beaten as Rodriguez hammered the 631st home run of his career, passing former team-mate Ken Griffey Jr to take fifth place on the all-time list.

Eric Chavez hit two homers and Nick Swisher and Russell Martin provided one each.

Meanwhile, Adam Dunn hit two homers and drove in five runs as the Chicago White Sox blasted past the Seattle Mariners 7-3.  Hector Sanchez hit a go-ahead single in the 10th inning to guide the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 win over the New York Mets.

The Philadelphia Phillies won their 13th straight game at San Diego’s Petco Park, beating the Padres 4-1. Jack Hannahan drove in three runs as the Cleveland Indians edged the Oakland Athletics 4-3.

The Los Angeles Angels ended a three-game losing streak as Howie Kendrick had three hits and three RBIs to see his side to a 6-3 victory against the Baltimore Orioles. Josh Willingham helped the Minnesota Twins overcome the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4, hitting a go-ahead three-run double in the seventh.

Lance Lynn impressed for the St Louis Cardinals, allowing just four hits as his team defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1. The Kansas City Royals slumped to an eighth straight loss as the Toronto Blue Jays recorded a 4-3 win, the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Houston Astros 3-1 and the Atlanta Braves thrashed the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-1.

The Chicago Cubs saw their losing streak extended to six matches after a 9-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds, the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 2-0 and the Colorado Rockies edged the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3. Rain forced the clash between the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers to be postponed.
