Paralympic Breakfast: Take two for Michael McKillop

The Irish gold medalist tonight bids to emulate the success he enjoyed at the weekend.

EVERY MORNING, WE bring you all of the info you need to make sure you don’t miss a second of Paralympic gold.

What a phenomenal weekend for the Irish competitors at the Paralympic Games in London, and it just goes on and on.

Several – hopefully by now familiar – faces will be competing today, including Irish gold medalist Michael McKillop.

So read on, for all the details on Day Five of the Paralympics.

Who’s flying the flag?

Having finished fifth in the individual para-dressage final at Greenwich Park on Friday, Eilish Byrne is back in action as she challenges for an individual medal in the equestrian freestyle competition today. Every rider starts on a zero score, with proceedings getting underway at 9am.

Wheelchair sprinter John McCarthy, competing in his third Paralympic Games, takes part in the 100m T51 final at 7.10pm tonight.

John Twomey, Anthony Hegarty and Ian Costello are all involved in the three person keelboat competition in the sailing, and that begins at 11am. The 2012 Paralympics are John Twomey’s 10th Paralympics, a record for any Irish person competing at either the Olympics or Paralympics.

Finally, Michael McKillop already has a gold medal to his name, following success in the 800m on Saturday night. The 22-year-old has the chance of further glory this evening as he goes in the 1500m T37 final at 8.47pm.

Do not miss…

Equestrian

Team GB’s Lee Pearson has already a phenomenal ten Paralympic gold medals. Can he secure an 11th at 2.45pm today?

Archery

Normally one of the most fun sports to watch at the Paralympics, there is an additional fascinating element today, as John Stubbs bids to equal or better his performance in Beijing four years ago, where he secured a Paralympic record of 117 from 12 arrows on his way to winning gold. His event begins at approximately 4pm.
