He tweeted this morning: “Gutted to be out of action for a while. Underwent surgery on thumb yesterday and it went well Hoping for a speedy recovery. Thanks for support.”

A statement from officials today reads: “The club’s medical staff had hoped surgery could be avoided but after reassessment on Wednesday, a decision was taken for Wallace to have an operation.”
