LOUIS VAN GAAL says Paddy McNair can establish himself as Manchester United’s first-choice right-back for the next 10 years.
The 19-year-old has broken into the first-team in recent months, making 16 appearances in all competitions so far in 2014-15 and starring against Cambridge United in the FA Cup.
Van Gaal claims that the Northern Irishman can nail down a starting spot for the foreseeable future if he continues his current form, having previously impressed in the Under-21 squad.
“It is not only Paddy McNair who has impressed with his development, as I have given a lot of chances to younger players,” Van Gaal told reporters.
“But Paddy McNair has developed himself very well, not only as a central defender but now we are giving him the chance to develop as a full-back and he did it very well.
“He has done it already in the second team [Under-21s] and has done it now at a higher level in the first-team. Maybe he shall be the right full-back of Manchester United for the next 10 years, you never know. He has the chance.”
Who dreamed up the idea of having a massive cork derby on at the same time as a rare Munster match with the team at full strength in Musgrave 3miles down the road?
@Leo Erah: There was a glory time when the sport went pro and the clubs were most definitely not invited to the party.
@Leo Erah: I was thinking the same thing! I’d have definitely gone if it was on tomorrow or Sunday! Was at Musgrave Park though and I think I’m not the only one…
