Owen Heary to stay on as Bohs boss

Heary will remain in charge for the maximum 60 days allowed, the Premier Division strugglers said today.

BOHEMIANS HAVE BACKED Owen Heary to beat the drop by confirming that he will stay on as manager for as long as possible.

Heary replaced the sacked Aaron Callaghan on an caretaker basis but can only take up the job for a maximum of 60 days because he does not yet have the necessary coaching badges.

After former boss Roddy Collins rejected their advances to stay at Athlone Town, Bohs confirmed that Heary will remain in his position until 12 September.

He will also register on a course for the UEFA Pro Licence, the required qualification for league managers, at the earliest opportunity.

“The club will review the manager position in early September”, Bohs said in a short statement this afternoon.

Since Heary’s appointment, Bohs have had an upturn in fortunes though they still remain a point adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division table.

They beat Bray Wanderers 3-1 in his first game, though he was not allowed into the dugout as he had to serve a ban following his sending off in Callaghan’s last match.

They followed that up with a 1-1 draw at home to Drogheda United last week and will hope to extend their good run when they host fellow strugglers UCD on Friday night.
