Bohs president says the club was 'lucky and privileged' to have Owen Heary as manager

Heary leaves after eight seasons at the club as a player and manager.

OWEN HEARY’S TENURE as Bohemians manager ended tonight and he went out on a positive note after a win over Derry City at Dalymount Park. Heary, who played for Bohemians for six years between 2007 and 2013 took over took over from Aaron Callaghan in 2013.

Club president Matt Devaney paid tribute to the ‘exemplary leader’ who has been associated with the club for eight seasons.

“We have been lucky and privileged to have a person of the calibre and qualities of Owen Heary with us,” Devaney said.

“Over eight seasons with Bohemians Owen Heary has been an exemplary leader in many roles, as captain, as coach to youth teams, as assistant manager, and most recently as manager.

“In this season he and his squad achieved much more than was expected of them in the league, the FAI Cup and the league cup.

“Owen has built a strong team spirit in the squad, acting as an inspiration in particular to younger players. He has left an indelible mark on Bohemians.”

Bohemians finished in seventh place in the Airtricity League table this season and Heary is expected to become the next Sligo Rovers manager.
