Out of favour Macheda joins QPR for the rest of the season

Neil Warnock hopes that Manchester United’s young Italian striker can add another dimension to the Loftus Road attack.

MANCHESTER UNITED STRIKER Federico Macheda has joined QPR on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old Italian is behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen in the Old Trafford pecking order and has made only three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

Macheda spent an unsuccessful loan period with Sampdoria last season but Hoops boss Neil Warnock is hopeful that the youngster can reproduce the form that saw him break into the United first team at 17.

“This is a great opportunity for both parties,” Warnock said.

“He is positive, always in and around the box and can finish too. If we can get him the ball in the right areas, I am sure he will get us a few goals.”

Macheda has a contract with United until 2014.

“Federico is not getting a regular game at Old Trafford, quite obviously because of the quality of the squad they’ve got,” added Warnock.

“Everyone in the league is in envy of what Sir Alex Ferguson has got there but what he is trying to do is get Federico some game time. I am sure he is still part of their future plans.”
