Oscar Pistorius case: 'No hatred in our hearts' says Reeva Steenkamp's father

Barry Steenkamp said the Blade Runner may have ‘acted on instinct’

THE FATHER OF the model Reeva Steenkamp — who was shot dead at the home of Oscar Pistorius on Velentine’s Day — says “there is no hatred in our hearts”.

Barry Steenkamp said the Paralympic and Olympic star may have ‘acted on instinct’ and said the South African icon must be going through a difficult time after the Pretoria shooting this week.

“He must be going through things that we don’t know about,” Barry Steenkamp told the Mail on Sunday.  ”We ask the Lord every day to help us find a reason why this should happen to Reeva. She was the most beautiful, kind girl in the world.”

Pistorius’s father said he has “zero doubt” Miss Steenkamp’s death was a tragic accident and that his son may have acted “on instinct”. Henke Pistorius said he believes the model was killed after being mistaken for an intruder at his son’s house.

Pistorius will appear in court on Tuesday in order to apply for bail though police say they will oppose it.
