Guardiola is likely to face renewed speculation surrounding his future after tonight's game. Stephen Pond/EMPICS Sport

Open thread: Is this the end of the Barca era?

Pep Guardiola’s men suffered a significant setback tonight. Will the so-called best team in the world recover?

HAVING EFFECTIVELY LOST La Liga to Real Madrid on Saturday, Barcelona endured another disastrous result against Chelsea tonight, exiting the Champions League in the process.

With that in mind, is it the end of an era for Barca? Will Pep Guardiola leave? Will they attempt to build a new team, while ditching veterans such as Carlos Puyol and Xavi?

Or is this just a temporary blip for the so-called best team in the world? Will they be back next season, with the same players, more determined than ever to silence their critics?

    Cockerill is doing a good job but I can’t understand getting rid of a solid Scottish qualified player like Weir

    @Peter Brophy:
    Not only that but he is offloading 16 players in total.
    More than the dead wood I would suggest

    @Peter Brophy: Weir isn’t going to get Edinburgh to the next level. He’s a mid table Pro14 flyhalf. Hickey is a guy with great pedigree who might help them push on. Cockerill’s done a great job turning them around this season and deserve’s the chance to bring in a few of his guys and clear out those who don’t fit his plan.
