O’Neill reacted tetchily to a suggestion by the RTÉ reporter that McGeady’s late goal simply masked a disjointed performance from the Irish team, saying:

“We’ve won away from home. I think you, even you should be delighted that we’ve won the game.”
When O’Donoghue replied that he was thrilled with the result, O’Neill said: “Well you should show it.”
