HOCKEY CAN BE a great sport, hockey can be a violent sport. Sometimes it’s both. But guys like Damir Ryspayev just give it a bad name.
In a pre-season KHL fixture (probably shouldn’t call it a friendly, eh?) between China’s Kunlun Red Star and Kazkhstan’s Barys Astana, Ryspayev took it upon himself to do some enforcing by way of a completely unnecessary cheap shot three minutes in.
For a normal man losing the head, that might have been enough to satisfy the blood-lust for a few minutes, but the Barys Astana brawler took advantage of the distraction of another scrap to drop a second foe onto the ice.
By then he was in full Jean Claude Van Damme mode, seeking out target after target. He took on a third and fourth (increasingly disinterested) opponent before throwing the last ounce of caution to the wind and heading to the Kunlun bench to fight a few lads who hadn’t even ventured onto the ice.
Whoops!

Kunlun decided to abandon the fixture to protect their players, which seems fair.
