IRELAND’S OLIVER DINGLEY narrowly missed out on a medal in his 1M Springboard Final, taking fifth place at the European Diving Championships in Glasgow.
Over the course of seven jumps, Dingley’s total score of 385.65 was just six points off the podium places.
The 24-year-old Olympian had to show his grace under pressure in qualifying to the final as he sat 14th ahead of his final dive, but subsequently scored 65.60 points as he produced a forward 2½ somersaults with 1 twist pike to finish 11th and advance with 332.70 points.
In the final, there was no catching Team GB’s Jack Laugher who took gold by a clear 13.5 points ahead of Italy’s Giovanni Tocci while James Heatly took a second GB medal in third place.

Ireland’s second diver at the Championship meet, Jack French scored 224.90 points overall in the 1M Springboard qualification and finished 26th as a result.
Meanwhile, there was good news for Darragh Greene, as he reached the semi-finals of the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 27.66.
The 13th-ranked 23-year-old, who narrowly missed out on a place in the 100m Breaststroke Final on Friday, will be back in the pool today at 5.18pm.
Elsewhere in the 50m Breaststroke, Alex Murphy finished with a time of 28.09.
And finally, in the 200m Individual Medley, Niamh Kilgallen, who recently completed her Leaving Cert, touched in 2:21.97 on her senior international debut.
