Crossmaglen star Oisin McConville announces retirement from GAA

The player confirmed the news on Twitter earlier today, ending a 20-year playing career with the side.

CROSSMAGLEN AND ARMAGH star Oisin McConville has announced he is to retire from GAA.

The news comes after Crossmaglen’s loss to St Brigid’s last weekend, McConville’s last game in a 20-year career with the side.

Speaking to the BBC, he said the decision felt appropriate.

“For my own personal reasons it is the right time – I have been picking up injuries and different things like that.

“I’m happy with the decision and at peace with the fact that I’m not going to be playing football any more.

“I have had an unbelievable time playing gaelic football and I’ve won so much, but for me it was much more than that – it was my life for so many years.

“It is going to be hard, and there is going to be a big void but I have plenty of things to replace it.”

Among his vast career highlights, McConville has won six All Ireland club titles with Crossmaglen Rangers, 16 Armagh titles and 10 Ulster titles.

And with Armagh he has claimed one National League medal, seven Ulster titles, two all stars and an All-Ireland.
