UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN glued to the internet all weekend, there’s a chance that some weird and wonderful sporting tidbits might have slipped through the cracks. Here’s a run-down of some of our favourites…
1. #SHOWING GUTS This one is from last week but we only stumbled across it over the weekend. Old rivals Australia and New Zealand went stomach to stomach in the Belly Flop Championships, which resulted in a whole lot of raw looking skin. Painful stuff indeed.
2. #GET OFF Much like you’d fob away a parent if they got involved in on-field commotion when you were a child, Steven Gerrard shoos manager Kenny Dalglish off the pitch during their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park. Also worth checking out are James Perch’s reaction to a slight brush of Pepe Reina’s head, which resulted in a red card for the keeper, and this comical dive from Andy Carroll.
3. #COUNTER ATTACK Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs full-back Ben Barba scored one try for his side in their 30-20 win over the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday but it was his assist for Josh Morris’ that’s worth watching back. Barba cuts out a try-scoring opportunity for the opponents and goes on a terrific run before offloading to his team-mate.
5. #GROSS We wouldn’t usually have two Madrid clips back-to-back but how about Iker Casillas here. The Spanish No1 has a good pick then chooses to wipe the contents of his nose across an unsuspecting mascot’s face. Child cruelty, surely?
Off the record: sport stories you might have missed this weekend

4. #GOLAZZOS Real Madrid thumped Osasuna 5-1 on Saturday night and goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo were particularly special. And while we’re on La Liga, look at this for control from Barcelona’s future world beater Thiago Alcantara.
