Off the record: 5 stories you may have missed this weekend

Marco Materazzi visits Paris while Tommy Bowe discusses role-playing with his other half and Mark Cuban challenges Donald Trump.

UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN glued to the internet all weekend, there’s a chance that some weird and wonderful sporting tidbits might have slipped through the cracks. Here’s a run-down of some of the stories you may have missed.

1. #SIGHTSEEING Marco Materazzi paid a visit to Paris over the weekend, and while he was there, decided to take in the statue remembering the most famous moment in his career. The former Italy defender tweeted this photo with the statue portraying Zinedine Zidane’s headbutt on him in the 2006 World Cup final.

2. #FLARES Full of high spirits before seeing their 51-year FAI Cup drought continue at the Aviva Stadium yesterday, St Patrick’s Athletic fans filmed this clip of an impressive display of flares in the North Stand before firemen and the Gardai confiscated them. Party-poopers.

3. #ROLE-PLAYING Ireland’s Tommy Bowe and his missus are fans of the odd game of ‘Doctors & Nurses’, it would seem…

4. #CHALLENGE In response to Donald Trump’s offer to donate $5 million to charity if Brack Obama released his college transcripts, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has put one million dollars on the line if Trump shaves his head. We seriously doubt he will take it up.

5. #STARTING EARLY Argentinian club Newell’s Old Boys, where Lionel Messi played as a boy before departing for Spain, have tried to ensure the Barcelona star’s newborn son Thiago becomes a fan by making him an official member… despite the fact that he is only a couple of days old.
