The O'Donovan brothers' rowing club is now selling these excellent t-shirts

“We’re well used to a bit of wind!”

GARY AND PAUL O’Donovan have lit up the Olympics with their silver medal heroics and RTÉ interview antics.

Needless to say, their hometown rowing club in Skibbereen in West Cork is proud of them along with the rest of the country.

So they’re now selling a t-shirt in their honour

The front simply says: “I’m on Gary & Paul’s crew” followed by the iconic hashtag #PullLikeADog.

And the back features another of their now famous quotes from one of the TV interviews

As Skibbereen Rowing Club says on its website, the shirts serve two purposes:

This is not only an opportunity to express our support for what Gary and Paul have achieved but a chance to help the rowing club build the next generation of Olympians. We will use the funds raises from the sale of these t-shirts to upgrade our facilities and buy new boats and equipment which are all badly needed.

Fair play to them – let’s hope they pull in some funds while pulling like dogs down in West Cork.

The standard of our underage football in the country is key, good players will flourish wherever they go. What is important is that they are well coached and developed as footballers. The emphasis should always be on playing the right way rather than winning. Not easy of course but this is what other countries have done, Belgium, Portugal. And if there are more options out there than England so much the better. What an experience for a young person to spend a year or two (if that’s what it works out as) on the continent.

I used to never miss a Bohemians game in Dalymount in the 70’s before leaving Dublin. Each home game there were kids from a school invited to attend and it was announced before the game.
