O'Donovan brothers receive heroes' welcome home after Olympics triumph

Paul and Gary will enjoy further acclaim as they prepare for an open-top bus celebration in Skibbereen.

THE O’DONOVAN BROTHERS this evening received a heroes’ welcome home after securing an Olympics silver medal in Rio, while Paul O’Donovan was also congratulated for his gold medal success at the World Championships in Rotterdam yesterday.

The brothers earned Ireland’s first-ever medal in rowing, triumphing in the men’s lightweight double sculls, and were the only Irish athletes other than sailor Annalise Murphy to earn silverware in Brazil this summer at the Games.

The O’Donovans landed back in Ireland at around 9.30pm in Cork airport tonight and were greeted by crowds of adoring fans.

The brothers are set to receive further acclaim as they prepare for an open-top bus celebration to commemorate their homecoming in Skibbereen tomorrow evening.
