Curse of the O2 Irish Rugby advert

Every Ireland player featured in the mobile phone company’s advertisement met with adversity in the Six Nations.

“SILENCE” SAYS JONATHAN SEXTON at the beginning of the O2 advert for the Irish Rugby team, Bring on the Green.

Silence undoubtedly met the Irish players as they returned home to Dublin following their 22-15 to Italy in Rome.

Each player that has appeared in the advert has been struck by injury or ill fortune.

Andrew Trimble: Trained with the squad but was not selected for any of the matchday 23s.

Peter O’Mahony: Ended up playing on the left wing after Keith Earls, then Luke Fitzgerald were injured.

Brian O’Driscoll: Picked up three injuries in the draw with France. Yellow-carded against Italy.

Stephen Ferris: Missed the entire campaign after failing to recover from an ankle injury.

Mike McCarthy: Missed the Scotland defeat after injuring his knee against England.

Jonathan Sexton: Pulled hamstring against England. Tore tendon in foot before Italy match.

Simon Zebo: Broke a bone in his foot in the first-half against England.
