Sun forced into embarrassing climbdown over United star sex story

The tabloid’s publishers have agreed to pay Tom Cleverley “a substantial sum” in libel damages.

The Sun's apology to Tom Cleverley.

REMEMBER THAT STORY which the Sun ran last month about Manchester United's Tom Cleverley begging a girl for sex after meeting her in a nightclub?

(No? Neither do we.)

Would you be massively surprised if we told you that it was completely and utterly untrue?

(No? Neither were we.)

The British tabloid was forced to issue a public apology to Cleverley this morning after it emerged that yes, a man had met a woman in a nightclub and asked her to have sex with him.

Unfortunately for the Sun, it wasn't the United midfielder. It was just someone pretending to be him.

The Guardian reports that the London high court heard Cleverley's libel action against the paper this morning. Sensibly, the publishers have agreed to pay the footballer "a substantial sum in damages."

Aww isn’t that nice of the s*n to apologise for something. 22 years and waiting for an apology still from that lot on a matter a bit more serious
