AFTER AN INTENSE and prolonged final at Twickenham, Northampton Saints emerged victorious to become Premiership Champions for the first time in their history.
A week on from lifting the Amlin Challenge Cup, Saints went into the final gruelling minutes of extra-time trailing 20 – 17.
With two tries scored to Saracens’ one, a level scoreline would have sufficed to take the crown, but they gambled and pushed for the outright win with Alex Waller proving the hero with a contentious try awarded after a long review by the TMO.

The match had ended level at 14 – 14 after 80 minutes, Saints’ scores coming via Ben Foden and George Pisi tries as Saracens were kept in touch by Owen Farrell until Marcelo Bosch leveled the scores with eight minutes of regular time remaining.
'Steady on, Faz. The try's not been given yet'.
By that stage, Owen Farrell had already limped clear of the action, England’s out-half appearing to injure himself by kicking the ball away after Saracens ran in a try that was to be disallowed.
