Non, merci: Only ‘a few hundred’ take up offer of rescheduled France match

The IRFU has said that it does not expect the thousands that travelled for the postponed Six Nations clash in Paris earlier this month to return for the rescheduled game in March.

ONLY A FEW hundred Irish supporters have availed of the offer to return to Paris for the rearranged Six Nations rugby clash with France next month.

A spokesman for the IRFU told TheJournal.ie today that just over 1,500 people had applied for a refund after the 11 February clash at the Stade de France was postponed moments before kick off due to a frozen pitch.

The deadline for a refund for tickets bought through the IRFU passed yesterday with others who bought tickets through ticket and travel agencies told to contact those agencies for a refund.

Some 6,000 Irish fans were thought to have travelled for the original game, the second in Ireland’s Six Nations calendar, with 4,100 tickets allocated through the IRFU.

The spokesman said today that “nowhere near 4,100″ are going to the rescheduled game on Sunday, 4 March.

“Only a few hundred applied for tickets,” he said today. “We wouldn’t be of the expectation that there would be many making a second trip.”
