No arguments here: Newcastle's Alan Pardew is named Manager of the Year

Pardew has thrived since taking over from Chris Hughton on Tyneside, with his side challenging for a Champions League spot.

NEWCASTLE UNITED MANAGER Alan Pardew has been named Barclays Manager of the Season, with Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany picking up the players’ award.

In only Newcastle’s second season back in the top flight after relegation, the club is looking at the possibility of Champions League football next season.

The lowest the Magpies can possibly finish is fifth, which is remarkable given the funds available to the teams around them in the table.

Pardew’s record in the transfer market has been particularly impressive, with the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Papiss Cissé all thriving in the North-East.

Meanwhile, Kompany was named the season’s best player after missing out on the shortlist for PFA Player of the Year, which was won by Robin van Persie.

City’s club captain has been imperious at the back and will lift the Premier League trophy if City beat Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, having scored the goal that beat Manchester United in the recent derby match.
